Sustainability is a trend widely followed in the year 2018. As we near the end to this year, event planners and event professionals across the globe pledge to make events more sustainable and adhere to the concept of Green Events.
What comes to your mind on the first thought of planning sustainable events?
Saving the environment from being destroyed, preserving nature is all about going green at your events. going paperless at conferences is surely an amazing way to introduce sustainability at events. Paperless conferences make a great way for introducing event app in the corporate events and use it at its fullest. Event Tech can now be a saver for you at any conference or event.
Let’s delve into the more sustainable ideas that can be introduced in the events like using biodegradable plates and cups instead of plastics, treating your event waste as required and processing the reusable products to avoid wastage and dump, going digital, using the power of social media to spread the message and so on.
According to ISO 20121, sustainable event management is the process of integrating environmental and social responsibility issues into event planning.
Hubilo came up with another Twitter Chat for the month of September and the topic we chose was to discuss ways of “Sustainable Event Planning”
Starting off, the first question was everyone’s take on what they think of Green Events and how do they explain them.
Let’s have a look at some of the answers for the same.
Q1, Let's start with our discussion. So, what according to you "Green Event" means?#EventellectsTalk #GreenEvents @greenevents2day @MeetGreen @tojulius @ItsWillCurran @TSNN_Rachel @themiceblog

To make an event more environment friendly can be defined as a green event #EventellectsTalk

Q2. What role do you think technology can play in Green and Sustainable Events? #EventellectsTalk #Eventprofs #GreenEvents @BizBash

Reduce the total amount of resources used including energy resources. #EventellectsTalk

Tech is the future of events industry! #eventplanners are using #eventapp and event tech to make meetings and conferences paperless! A tech friendly event can be a great savior of paper and trees. #EventellectsTalk

Q3. While green event planning, what are the aspects that you focus on the most? #EventellectsTalk #eventprofs @NickBorelli@JeffHurt @michellebruno @DahliaElGazzar @SME_Events @christysme @SmartMeetings

I have quite creative ideas on this one. Instead of using plastic things like cutlery or bottles, use paper plates. You can even provide bicycles on rent just to send out a message to people that our environment needs to be saved from the destructions we cause. #EventellectsTalk
— Juhi Purswani (@19_juhi) October 18, 2018
Q4. Event Associations and Organiations are trying to merge and make events more sustainable. Are you aware of any such organisations?#EventellectsTalk @Events_Council @jessicapglenn @AssocForum @GoSustain @miceindiaa
— Hubilo (@Hubiloconnect) October 18, 2018
Just posting pictures of supporting green events won't help the purpose of it. One great idea is to provide all the attendees with a seed or a small plant while they exit. It is a small gesture but quite impactful on the minds of attendees. Try it out! #EventellectsTalk

Q5. Saving environment is vital for Green and Sustainable events. We recently visited an event where bamboo cutlery was used as an initiative for the same. Have you ever been to such events? Or do you have any ideas that might bring a change? #EventellectsTalk
— Hubilo (@Hubiloconnect) October 18, 2018
Another way is to promote startups and organisations like @MeetGreen and adopt their practices in sustainable event planning. #EventellectsTalk
— Juhi Purswani (@19_juhi) October 18, 2018
Q6. Have you planned or are planning for any green initiatives for yourself? Share the ideas, if any!#EventellectsTalk

A2 Event tech is the only way to get us away from our paper dependence. Less paper = less waste. #eventellectstalk

We had a client who thought their attendees (older doctors) would never adopt the app. They took away their paper schedules completely and voila! 100% adoption rate the first year. 👏 #eventellectstalk
— Michael Doane (@medoane) October 18, 2018
We also faced such issues in a recent event but when attendees got to know how the app would benefit them. We came back with positive feedbacks and motivated for going completely paperless in all events! #EventellectsTalk

Thanks for hosting an amazing chat! Happy to be a part of it and making events sustainable! #EventellectsTalk

In event management, Venue is the second most important thing that we need to focus on. The main thing is we need to encourage the people for walking and cycling. This one make a great impact on event as well as solve the major problem. #EventellectsTalk
